What Is Saffiano Leather
The original saffiano leather was created in its recognizable cross hatch embossed grain in calf skin.
What is saffiano leather. Saffiano leather was originally made from the highest quality calf leather. Saffiano leather was first made in one of italy s most famous tanneries and was a signature and patent of established design house prada. As a result the leather is highly scratch resistant durable and exceptionally easy to keep clean. Some of those materials are vegan others are not.
What is saffiano leather. The classic saffiano leather as used by prada in the early 1900s is not vegan. This pattern is pressed in to a wax coating during the production process resulting in a finish which is scratch resistant water resistant durable and easy to clean. These days however the term saffiano is used to describe the typical cross hatched pattern and designers choose to apply a saffiano finish to a range of different materials.
This full grain leather is further finished with a wax treatment. Saffiano is a textured leather meaning it has a cross hatch finish achieved by treating the leather with a specialised stamping machine. Leather which gain their grain pattern by this kind of stamping method are also called textured leathers. Saffiano leather is famous for its diagonal lines and cross hatch pattern which are machine pressed into the wax coating of the leather giving it a slight sheen.
It was vegetable tanned and waxed impregnated with wax for durability and water resistance originally it was done in 1913 by one italian tanne.
